Finch Employment

Technology & engineering recruitmentAI and data recruitment in Toronto and the GTA

Finch helps GTA employers hire the data analysts, engineers, scientists and machine learning specialists who turn business data into decisions and working tools.

Many businesses collect far more data than they use. Sales records, customer behaviour, operations and finance data all hold answers, but only if someone can clean it, organize it and analyse it correctly. Hiring for these roles is confusing for many employers, because titles such as data analyst, data scientist and machine learning engineer are used loosely, and résumés often promise more than a candidate's experience delivers.

Finch Employment recruits AI and data professionals for employers across Toronto and the GTA on a retainer basis. We start by understanding the business problem you want solved and the data and tools you already have, then advertise, source and screen candidates against that brief. You receive a shortlist of suitable people with relevant, practical experience, we arrange the interviews and we follow up after the start date.

Why hiring data and AI talent takes a specialist

Data job titles are used inconsistently, so the role you need may be advertised elsewhere under a different name with very different expectations.

Many candidates have course projects built on clean sample data but little experience with messy, incomplete business data and real stakeholders.

AI skills are widely claimed, which makes it hard to separate people who have deployed working models from those who have only experimented with them.

Data professionals handle sensitive customer and financial information, so you need people who respect privacy obligations and use data responsibly.

How we screen AI & data candidates

  • Practical experience with Python, SQL and the analytics or machine learning tools you use
  • Projects built on real business data, including how the candidate cleaned and validated it
  • Ability to explain findings and model results to non-technical decision-makers
  • Experience moving work into production, whether dashboards, pipelines or deployed models
  • Understanding of privacy, data security and responsible use of personal information

AI & data recruitment: questions employers ask

We are not sure whether we need an analyst, an engineer or a scientist. Can you help?

Yes, and this is one of the most useful parts of the consultation. We ask what decisions you want to make, where your data lives and what condition it is in. Often the first hire is a data engineer or analyst who builds the foundation, with data science or machine learning work following once reliable data is in place.

Do data candidates need a master's degree or PhD?

For most analyst and data engineering roles, no. A relevant degree or diploma plus strong practical experience is usually enough. Graduate degrees are more common in research-heavy data science and machine learning roles. We help you decide whether an advanced degree is truly required for your work, since requiring one can rule out capable candidates.

Can you screen for responsible use of AI and data?

We ask candidates how they have handled personal information, bias in data, model limitations and access controls in past roles, and we look for people who explain the limits of their work honestly. If your organization has specific privacy or regulatory obligations, tell us during the consultation and we will include them in the screening.
