Finch Employment

Skilled trades & industrial recruitmentConstruction recruitment in Toronto and the GTA

Finch helps GTA builders, contractors and renovation firms find skilled tradespeople and site leaders who show up ready to work safely.

Construction supervisor and skilled tradespeople discussing plans on a building site

Construction schedules depend on people. When a carpenter leaves mid-project or a site supervisor position sits empty, the whole job slows down and costs start to climb. Finch Employment recruits construction professionals for general contractors, subcontractors, renovation companies and developers across Toronto, York, Peel, Durham and Halton, so you can keep crews staffed without spending your evenings reading resumes and chasing references.

We work on a retainer basis. After a consultation about the role, your sites and the kind of person who fits your crew, we advertise, source and screen candidates, then arrange interviews with a shortlist of suitable people. Every search is built around Ontario requirements, including the safety training your sites demand, and we follow up after the start date to make sure the hire is working out.

Why construction hiring needs a specialist

Experienced trades and site leaders are usually already working, so the best candidates rarely answer a job posting and have to be approached directly.

Safety training such as Working at Heights and WHMIS has to be current and documented before someone can step onto your site.

Resumes rarely show whether a candidate has worked on residential, commercial or institutional projects, and that experience changes how quickly they become productive.

A poor hire on a crew affects everyone around them, from productivity and site safety to how the rest of the team feels about coming to work.

How we screen construction candidates

  • Hands-on experience in the trade and the project types you build
  • Current safety training, including Working at Heights where it applies and WHMIS
  • Skilled Trades Ontario certificates or apprenticeship status where relevant
  • Reliability, transportation and willingness to travel to sites across the GTA
  • References from previous foremen, supervisors or contractors

Construction recruitment: questions employers ask

What construction roles does Finch recruit for?

We recruit for skilled and supervisory construction positions, including carpenters, drywall installers, painters, construction labourers, foremen, site supervisors and estimators. If your role is not listed, tell us about it during the consultation. We will be clear about whether it fits our search process before any retainer is agreed.

How are construction recruitment fees set?

Finch works on a retainer basis only. The fee is agreed per position and depends on its requirements, such as seniority, certifications and how specialized the experience needs to be. The retainer is paid up front to begin the search, so you know the cost before any advertising or sourcing starts.

Do you check safety training before candidates are sent to us?

Yes. We ask candidates for proof of the safety training the role requires, such as Working at Heights and WHMIS, and note anything that is expired or missing. Your own site orientation and company-specific training still apply, but you will know where each shortlisted candidate stands before the interview.
