Finch Employment

Professional & office recruitmentProject management recruitment in Toronto and the GTA

Finch recruits project managers, coordinators, program managers and operations leaders who deliver on scope, schedule and budget.

A project manager is often the person standing between a plan and a missed deadline. Whether you are building a facility, rolling out new software, launching a product or running daily operations, the right lead keeps people, budgets and schedules aligned, and tells you early when something is going off track. The wrong hire can let small problems grow into costly ones. Finch recruits project and operations professionals for employers in construction, technology, manufacturing, healthcare and professional services across the GTA.

Project management skills only matter in context, so our consultation focuses on the kind of projects you run, their size and complexity, the methodology your team follows and who the role reports to. We then source and screen candidates, asking them to walk through projects they delivered and checking credentials such as the PMP where you require one. You meet a shortlist of suitable candidates in interviews we arrange, and we follow up after the start date.

Why project management roles are hard to fill well

The same title covers very different jobs, and a construction project manager, an IT project manager and an operations manager need distinct experience.

Credentials such as the PMP show training, but they do not prove someone has managed projects of your size, budget or risk.

Candidates can describe a team's success as their own, so it takes careful questioning to learn what they personally owned and decided.

Strong project leads are usually busy delivering, and many will only consider a move when approached directly with a clear, well-defined opportunity.

How we screen project management candidates

  • Delivery history on projects of comparable size, budget, complexity and industry to yours
  • Methodology experience that suits your environment, whether predictive, Agile, hybrid or construction-specific
  • Credentials such as the PMP from the Project Management Institute when your role requires or prefers them
  • Budget, schedule and risk management, including how they handled overruns, delays and scope changes
  • Stakeholder communication and leadership, confirmed through reference checks with sponsors or team members

Project management recruitment: questions employers ask

Do our project managers need a PMP?

Not always. The PMP from the Project Management Institute is a widely recognized credential, and some employers and clients require it, especially for larger or contract-driven projects. Many capable project managers have built their skills through experience instead. We discuss what matters for your projects and can screen for the credential, the experience, or both.

Can you recruit project managers for industries other than construction and IT?

Yes. Project and program roles exist in manufacturing, healthcare, marketing, finance, non-profit organizations and the public sector. We tailor the search to your industry, looking for people who understand its regulations, vocabulary and typical project types, so they can contribute quickly instead of learning the basics of your sector on the job.

How do you check a project manager's track record?

We ask candidates to walk through specific projects: the scope, budget, team, what went wrong and how they responded. We look for clear answers about decisions they made themselves. Reference checks with former sponsors, managers or team members then confirm what we heard, so the shortlist you receive reflects real delivery experience.
