Finch Employment

Finance, real estate & crypto recruitmentBanking and wealth management recruitment in Toronto and across Canada

Finch recruits financial advisors, investment advisors, planners, credit analysts, compliance officers and commercial relationship managers, with registrations and credentials checked before a candidate reaches your shortlist.

Financial advisor reviewing a portfolio with a client

Hiring in banking and wealth management carries more risk than most office hires. The person you bring on will handle client money, sensitive information and regulated advice, and in Ontario even the job title can be restricted. A résumé that says advisor or planner tells you little about whether the candidate is registered in the right category, holds an approved credential or has a clean regulatory record. Checking all of that properly takes time most hiring managers do not have.

Finch Employment works on a retainer basis for banks, credit unions, investment and mutual fund dealers, planning firms and commercial lenders. Our Toronto office runs searches across the GTA and, by phone and video, for employers elsewhere in Canada. We begin with a consultation about the role, the products and the rules that apply to it, then advertise, source and screen. You receive a shortlist of suitable candidates, we arrange the interviews and we follow up after the start date.

Why financial services hiring needs a specialist

Registration categories differ by product and firm type, so a candidate approved at one dealer may not be able to do the same work at yours without upgrading.

Ontario restricts the Financial Planner and Financial Advisor titles to people with an FSRA-approved credential, which affects job postings, business cards and client materials.

Strong advisors and relationship managers are usually employed, often under agreements that limit how they approach clients, so recruiting them takes discretion and direct outreach.

Compliance and credit roles demand experience under specific rules, and general finance experience rarely substitutes for hands-on work with regulators and risk teams.

How we screen banking & wealth management candidates

  • Current registration category and history, checked against public records kept by Canadian securities regulators
  • Approved credentials such as the CFP, QAFP, PFA, CFA charter, CAMS or CPA, confirmed with the issuing body
  • Disciplinary history, complaints and any gaps in registration explained by the candidate
  • Client, credit or compliance judgment, tested through real examples and case discussion
  • Eligibility to work in Canada, location and fit with your compensation model

Banking & wealth management recruitment: questions employers ask

Do you confirm that advisors are properly registered?

Yes. Before a candidate reaches your shortlist we check their registration category and history in public regulator databases, confirm credentials with the issuing body and ask about any gaps or past complaints. Your own compliance team still completes its onboarding and registration filings, but you start the process with fewer surprises.

Can you recruit for wealth and banking firms outside Ontario?

Yes. Our home base is Toronto and the GTA, and we run searches for employers elsewhere in Canada by phone and video. Title rules and licensing differ by province, so during the consultation we confirm what applies where the person will work and screen every candidate against those requirements.

How are fees set for a banking or wealth search?

Finch works on a retainer basis only. The fee is agreed per position based on its requirements, such as the registration needed, seniority and how specialized the role is. The retainer is paid up front to begin the search, and we explain what it covers before you commit.
