Healthcare & wellness recruitmentVeterinary recruitment in Toronto and the GTA

Finch helps animal hospitals and clinics hire veterinarians, registered veterinary technicians, assistants and practice managers who fit their caseload and their team.

Veterinary teams are often stretched thin, and one vacancy can mean shorter hours, longer waits for appointments and more pressure on the people who stay. Hiring well is harder than it looks: clinical skill, communication with worried pet owners and the resilience to handle emotional days all matter. Finch runs the search for you, so your veterinarians and technicians can keep their attention on patients rather than on job postings and phone screens.

We recruit veterinarians, registered veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants and practice managers for companion animal, emergency, mixed and specialty practices across Toronto and the GTA, and for clinics elsewhere in Canada by phone and video. Every search starts with a consultation about your caseload, species, hours and team structure. Searches are retainer-based, with fees agreed per position, and we stay involved from sourcing and screening through interviews, the offer and follow-up.

Why veterinary hiring takes a specialist

Veterinarians and RVTs often receive several offers, and they weigh caseload, mentorship, after-hours duties and team culture as carefully as compensation.

Every veterinarian needs a licence from the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, and the RVT title depends on OAVT registration, so credentials must be checked early.

Ontario's Veterinary Professionals Act, 2024 will bring veterinary technicians under the same regulator as veterinarians, so registration details deserve close attention during the transition.

Clinical skill is only part of the job. Teams also need people who can handle euthanasia appointments, emergencies and anxious clients without burning out.

How we screen veterinary candidates

  • Licence with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, including licence class and any terms or conditions
  • OAVT registration and VTNE completion for registered veterinary technicians
  • Species experience, surgical and dental skills, and comfort with your caseload
  • Experience with your practice management software and client communication tools
  • Availability for evenings, weekends and on-call shifts, plus references from veterinary employers

Where we recruit veterinary professionals

Veterinary recruitment: questions employers ask

Do you recruit for emergency and specialty hospitals?

Yes. We recruit for general companion animal practices as well as emergency, referral and specialty hospitals. Emergency roles often involve overnight shifts and a different pace of work, so we ask about your shift pattern, case volume and support structure early and screen candidates for the experience and stamina that kind of schedule requires.

Can you recruit veterinarians for clinics outside Ontario?

Yes. We run searches by phone and video for veterinary employers elsewhere in Canada. Veterinarians are licensed provincially, so a candidate must hold or be able to obtain a licence from the regulator in the province where your clinic operates. We confirm this before presenting anyone, along with the candidate's willingness to relocate if needed.

What does a veterinary search with Finch involve?

It starts with a consultation about the role, your caseload and what your clinic offers. Once the retainer is in place, we advertise, source and approach candidates directly, screen their licence or registration, skills and references, and present a shortlist of suitable people. We arrange the interviews, support the offer and check in after the start date.
