What a clinic director does

A clinic director leads the day-to-day running of a healthcare clinic, such as a medical, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, dental or multidisciplinary practice. They manage clinical and front-desk staff, oversee scheduling and patient flow, monitor billing and revenue, handle patient concerns, maintain policies and help the clinic meet the standards its regulated professionals are held to. In multi-location groups, the director may oversee several sites and report to owners or a medical director.

Some clinics want a director who is also a regulated health professional, while others prefer a business leader who works alongside clinical leads. Finch clarifies which model fits before the search begins. Where a regulated professional is required, we confirm registration with the relevant college, such as the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. We also screen for experience with billing systems, obligations under the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and leading teams through growth or change.

Hiring a clinic director: common questions

Does a clinic director need to be a regulated health professional?

It depends on your clinic. Some owners want the director to be a physiotherapist, nurse or other regulated professional who can also provide clinical leadership. Others prefer an experienced business manager supported by clinical leads. We help you weigh the options and, where registration is required, confirm it with the relevant Ontario regulatory college.

Can you recruit a director for a multi-location clinic group?

Yes. Multi-site roles need someone who can standardize processes, lead managers at each location and report clearly to owners. We screen for experience overseeing more than one site, keeping patient experience consistent across locations and producing the financial reporting that groups need to compare performance between clinics.
