What an HR coordinator does

An HR coordinator supports the HR team with the administration behind every employee change. Typical duties include posting jobs and scheduling interviews, preparing offer letters and onboarding packages, maintaining employee files and HRIS records, tracking training and certifications, coordinating benefits paperwork and answering routine employee questions. The coordinator is often the first point of contact for new hires and the person who makes sure every form, signature and date is in place.

Small administrative errors in HR can cause real problems: a missing signature on an offer, a benefits enrolment that was never sent or an incorrect start date passed to payroll. A good coordinator prevents them through organization and follow-through. Finch screens for accuracy, HRIS experience and discretion with personal information. Many strong coordinators are working toward their CHRP, and we can include that in the search if professional development matters to your team.

Hiring an HR coordinator: common questions

Can an HR coordinator handle recruitment for us?

Many HR coordinators handle job postings, résumé screening and interview scheduling. If your hiring volume is high or your roles are hard to fill, a dedicated in-house recruiter may be a better fit. We can discuss the difference during the consultation and shape the search to the level of recruitment work you need.

Should we hire a coordinator who wants to grow into a generalist role?

Often, yes. Many coordinators are building toward generalist roles and pursuing their CHRP, and hiring someone with that ambition can give you a team member who grows with your organization. If you would rather have someone content to stay in a coordinator role for the long term, tell us and we will screen with that in mind.
