What an in-house recruiter does

An in-house recruiter, sometimes called a talent acquisition specialist, manages hiring for an organization from the inside. The role includes working with managers to define openings, writing job advertisements, sourcing candidates through job boards, LinkedIn and referrals, screening applicants, coordinating interviews, managing offers and maintaining the applicant tracking system. Many in-house recruiters also build employer branding, attend career fairs and develop relationships with colleges and professional associations.

Organizations with steady hiring needs often find a dedicated recruiter more effective than leaving hiring to busy managers. The right person understands your roles well enough to spot strong candidates quickly and represents your organization professionally to every applicant. Finch screens for sourcing ability, experience with similar roles and hiring volumes, and awareness of Ontario employment standards that affect job postings and hiring. Recruiting recruiters is familiar ground for us, because we know what good work in this field looks like.

Hiring an in-house recruiter: common questions

Should we hire an in-house recruiter or use an agency?

If you hire regularly across similar roles, an in-house recruiter can be cost-effective and builds deep knowledge of your organization. Agencies like Finch are often a better fit for specialized, senior or occasional roles. Many employers use both. We can help you hire a recruiter and still support the searches that need outside reach.

Should our in-house recruiter come from agency or corporate recruiting?

Agency recruiters are usually strong at sourcing and working quickly, while corporate recruiters often bring experience with internal stakeholders, employer branding and process. Either background can work. We look at the kind of hiring your organization does and recommend candidates whose experience matches the pace and relationships the job requires.
