What a client service coordinator does

A client service coordinator is the main day-to-day contact for a group of clients. The role typically involves onboarding new clients, managing requests and changes, preparing documents and renewals, coordinating with internal teams to deliver work on time and keeping clients updated. It is common in insurance brokerages, financial services, marketing agencies, logistics companies and professional services firms, where clients expect consistent follow-up from someone who knows their account.

A strong coordinator helps you keep clients because they feel looked after and problems are caught early. A weak one creates delays and erodes trust, and clients may not complain until they move their business elsewhere. Finch screens for account management experience, organization across many open files and professional written communication. Where your industry has licensing requirements, such as insurance, we confirm the candidate's licence status before you interview.

Hiring a client service coordinator: common questions

Is a client service coordinator a sales role?

Usually not. The coordinator's focus is service and retention, not bringing in new business. That said, coordinators often spot opportunities to expand an account and pass them to sales or account managers. If you expect some business development, tell us so we can screen for candidates who are comfortable with that part of the job.

Do client service coordinators need an industry licence?

It depends on the industry and the duties. In insurance brokerages, for example, coordinators who arrange coverage or give advice generally need to be licensed, while purely administrative roles may not. Your compliance lead or regulator is the best source on what your role requires. We screen for the licence you specify and confirm its status.
